The Adriatic Ionian Euroregion is organising, jointly with the Marche Region, the GEAR-UP! Sarajevo events to discuss Global Citizenship Education (GCE) as a key enabler of sustainable development in the EU and IPA countries. The events will take place at the premises of the Europe House on 5 March 2025 from 10:00 to 18:00.
The programme of events includes: a European Networking seminar, two regional Networking Talks and an Info Day to launch some Calls for Third Parties Support in IPA countries.
The Sarajevo events fall in the framework of the GEAR-UP!, a project co-financed by the European Union through the Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Programme. Acronym for “Global citizenship Education Actions to stRenghten yoUth engagement through local support to LAs and CSOs”, GEAR-UP! aims at fostering global citizenship education (GCED) actions to strengthen youth engagement and accelerate progress towards sustainable development and gender equality.
Through this new project the AIE’s capitalizes its long-standing commitment to empower Western Balkan youth in better connecting with the EU, in understanding its policies and processes and in engaging with them. In particular, young people will be stimulated to develop the values and skills to expand their understanding of regional challenges as related to wider, global ones, and take action to resolve them.
The Sarajevo events will present the key dimensions of GCED to foster the understanding and upholding of its values and vision: respect for human dignity, promotion of strong and peaceful relationships with diverse people, support for people in need and environmental responsibility. They will showcase and share the ongoing efforts to promote GCED as undertaken by regional and local authorities as well as civil society organisations, identifying best practices, tools and experiences in implementing SDG 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship), guiding participants to identify a set of opportunities for the effective implementation of sustainable development at regional, national and international level.
The Sarajevo events will explore Global Citizenship Education for sustainable development as an innovative paradigm to embed sustainability criteria of the UN 2030 Agenda within Cohesion Policy/Territorial Cooperation, with particular focus on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian Region (EUSAIR). The cooperation and coordination of different levels of government (supranational, national and local) is paramount to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda, making of the EUSAIR the perfect context to effectively tackling its imperative goals.
Agenda will soon available here.
